Learning about indigenous culture

In Term 4 we have been busy exploring First Nations culture with a range of indigenous presenters.

Local Boonwurrung custodian, Jaeden Williams, came to site to do a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country with the children Storyteller Monty Boori Pryor, hosted a great storytelling, art, music and movement workshop and Sean and Lionel Lauch from Living Culture took the children on a bush walk teaching all about how the Indigenous people use the plants all around us…from bush tucker to weaving. Lionel played his Yidaki and his daughter Skyler taught the children some Australian Animal dances.

We are proud to acknowledge the Boonwurrung as the first people of this land on which we live, learn and play.

‘Special Person’s’ Day at kindergarten

Lady Forster Kindergarten children were delighted to bring their ‘special someone’ to kindergarten in November and show them around for ‘Special Person’s Day’ in November. Plenty of requests for the family dog to attend as the ‘special person’ in the children’s lives! This was a wonderful event on our calendar organised by our hardworking ‘Events Team’ and everyone enjoyed opening our doors to the wider community for the children to share a kindergarten session with their loved one.

Book Week Celebrations a huge hit!

Each year the kindergarten celebrates books and literacy all week through the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s annual Book Week celebrations.
Children come dressed as their favourite story-book character and delight in the imaginative world of books and dress-ups!

This year’s theme was ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open…

The poster featuring artist Jasmine Seymour’s illustrating talents captured this theme perfectly.

A wonderful week for all our children and families to celebrate.
