Packing a Healthy Lunchbox

Healthy Eating Pyramid

When children eat well they behave better, are able to listen well and concentrate for longer.

Packing a healthy lunchbox will help children to learn and play well and be happy at kindergarten.

Nutrition Australia have a helpful range of fact sheets for families to inspire and empower healthy eating.

Our children and the LFK community were excited to come across ‘Merlin’ – a sea lion from Antarctica – snoozing in the sunshine on Elwood Beach on our weekly beach excursion, that forms part of our Coastal Curriculum.

The children explore the local bush and beach surrounding the kindergarten and were very excited to see our snoozing Elwood visitor!

Take a Moment to Watch This …

Take a Moment To Watch This - Lady Forster Kindergarten

All children want to play. Children with disabilities are no different. “Ian” is a short, animated film inspired by the real-life Ian, a boy with a disability determined to get to the playground despite his playmates bullying him. This film sets out to show that children with disabilities can and should be included.

“Ian” premiered at Cannes in May 2018. It was written by Gastón Gorali (Metegol/Underdogs), produced by Academy Award winner Juan José Campanella (The Secret in their Eyes) and Fundación ian, a nonprofit founded by Ian’s mum, whose mission is to make life better for families with disabilities. The animated film has won numerous awards internationally. “Ian” has also qualified for the Best Animated Short category in the 2019 Academy Awards. A special film – please take a moment with your child(ren) to watch this.

Upgrade to LFK website and new electronic sign-in/out

Lady Forster Kindergarten - Gallery Photo 52

We are delighted with our new website and the migration of our emails to a new hosting platform. A huge thank you to Travis Dowling, Xavier’s dad, for his tireless work across our IT systems this year. We could not have achieved the upgrades and improved technology without the countless hours he has spent on these changes and his extensive expertise. Early this term we will introduce a new electronic sign in iPad for the Extended Hours, Holiday and Friday Care programs. Travis again will assist us in getting this technology into operation at the kindergarten. Thanks again Travis!

The anti-cottonwool schools where kids stare down risk in favour of nature play

Lady Forster Kindergarten - Gallery Photo 59

This is a great article from the ABC about public primary schools in WA…

Far from wrapping children in cotton wool, a growing number of WA public schools are doing the opposite, giving their students the opportunity to race around on rollerblades, fly off ramps in crates and slide down trees.

They are setting aside injury concerns to help children build resilience and squeeze in much-needed physical activity, in an age where screen time dominates and where one in four children is either overweight or obese.

Schools that have adopted the so-called "anti-cotton wool" approach cite a long list of benefits to the approach, which result in happier and healthier students able to play more creatively and cooperatively.
